Star Wars episode 1

Star Wars Episode I

This series is one that one my family and I have loved for generations. When my mom and her brothers watcher this movie they would choose a character and quote the entire script while watching the movie on silent. So needless to say my family loves this show.

The quote that I chose from this movie is one said by Shmi Skywalker. Her son decides to leave after he is freed by Qui-Gon. Anakin stops while he is about to pack he turns to his mother and asks her is she was coming. His mother tells him no and talks about how important it I that he makes good decisions and leaves Tattoine.  His mother tells him:

Shmi Skywalker: You can't stop change any more than you can stop the suns from setting.

Change. Change. Change. Change should be accepted. Every day we see people trying to fight change. We see protesters storming the front line of Washington D.C.  Politicians are cooping themselves up in offices trying to change the world. When change is right in front of them. You can’t decide to change the world in one big legislative suggestion. You have to start small.

It’s the same way with life. Usually people don’t wake up with the idea to get better grades. It starts very small. Instead of watching T.V., spend an hour studying for a test the next day. Start small. Take 20 minutes a day to study instead of reading or hanging out with friends. It doesn’t have to be huge. You don’t need to take monumental steps. I think that is the problem with our world today. Everyone wants to take huge life changing steps. Not small ones that actually make a difference.

Not to say that you need to make inconsequential steps the entire time. There are step that make a bigger impact on us even then we intend. Graduation. Obviously graduation is a big step that many of us can’t avoid. After graduation we move out. And move on with our lives.

But with change comes decisions that aren’t easy to make. Graduation, college, and maybe one day marriage. This can be really scary thing to think about. It’s hard to remember life outside you home. But just like with Anakin Skywalker it’s a step that we all have to take. Our choices aren’t nearly as big as moving across the moving across the galaxy and forever leaving our families but our decisions can still have important consequences.

Seniors! It’s times to remember how important our decisions can be! And that change can be taken as good and bad. Especially so close to the beginning of our lives! Remember how good they can be and how amazing it can feel to be so sure and confident in yourselves. We will all make mistakes and it’s okay!

The Lake House

In honor of Valentines day I chose a love story! The lake house is the movie that I am going to talk about today. A quote that I absolutely loved from this movie is one said by a patient that is talking to Kate. The patient says: there's always something better around the corner...

This quote is defiantly one that can relate to all of us. There will always be something better around the corner!! High school is really the only world that we are familiar with. And all the time you hear about horrible tragedies like suicides and school shootings.  This quote I really think can change the world if we take it and apply it to everything.

Tragedies strike every day. Family members pass, grades fall, dreams slip away.  But there are absolutely ways to see the bright side of things. There are great ways to help yourself through hard times.
1.  STOP!!! Take dime in your day just to remember the good things!!
2. THINK!! Maybe start a journal that you only put all the good things in.
3. WRITE!! Write in this journal every day no matter the time it takes!! There is always time in the world for good things and remembering them.

So I have a story that I can relate to this quote.  A young sophomore girl gets called out of her class and out to the parking lot.  The girl's mom was there.  The girl exclaimed:
"Mom I can't go anywhere I have a chemistry test."
The girls mother just looked at her with sad tearful eyes. Then the mother said:
"Listen honey, grandpas doctors say that he won't make it through the weekend."

The girl's life took a dip.  The trip to Phoenix was one full of tears and exclamations of anger. The family got down to Phoenix and watches the life drain out of their father, husband and grandfather.  He passed away on May 8, 2011 6:43 in the morning.  The children watched at the funeral as their parents sobbed.  The younger ones still didn't understand.

13 months later the wife of the late grandfather took a fall.  She lay on the floor for 6 hours before anyone found her.  The father of the children went down to Phoenix and stayed as he watched his mother die as well.  He father died of reoccurring leukemia.  The mother died of cervical cancer.  With in 13 months the girl lost both of her grandparents to cancer. The both died when they were 58. That's how my grandparents passed.

But let me show you the right side to this story.  My grandpa had been battling leukemia for 3 years. My grandma was lonely and sick.  But they aren't suffering anymore. They are at peace and there is nothing more I could as for.

The bright side is there my friends.  You just have to learn to look for it.

The Lorax!

When I first watched this movie I absolutely loved it! It made me laugh, cry and squeal in joy. This movie has some of the best quotes I have ever heard. My absolute favorite is this little scene between Ted and the Once-ler.

Ted: The last seed?
Once-ler: It's not about what it is. It's about what it can become. Just like... you're not just a boy.

This is a great quote that can mean so many different things to me. The first part of the quote is “The last seed?” This is a quote that I can relate to another quote from a Dr. Seuss book. “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.”

When Ted says what he says it reminds me that you can only be you. There is no one who can be you, which is what Dr. Seuss says in the earlier quote.” Remember who you are” is always something that my grandmother would tell me whenever I went on vacation away from home. I never really hit me until I saw what kind of influence society has on young people. Don’t be what society has influenced you to be. Do what you want if it’s what you would do.

The second part of the quote is “It’s not about what it is. It’s about what it can become.” This is where I see all of our potentials come into play. Just the other day I was recording a song with a few friends and a comment from one of my fellow students really showed me a different side. We should always realize that our paths may be few but we have to try and exercise as many of them as we can. When we were born we all had the potential to be almost anything. We just have to realize that it is within us to do all things with the right amount of dedication.

The last part of the quote is “Just like…you’re not a boy.” WE ARE ALL SPECIAL! There is not a one of us who is less than the other. Just because you get a big paycheck doesn’t mean you are better than the last hobo you saw. Seniors and freshman. Firefighter and teacher. Doctor and social worker. Linguist and physical therapist. Fitness director and president. There is no difference between us. Every one of us is human. And not a one of us is more important than the other. Sure, one of us may require the secret service for protection and the other may only need a stealthily concealed handgun. Circumstances don’t make importance.

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises The Dark Knight Rises, the latest movie in the Batman series with Christian Bale. This movie proves especially difficult for Bruce Wayne. He gets his heart broken by Rachel Dawes who was murdered in the last movie, his bank is broken by a skilled thief, Selina Kyle, then his back is broken and he is thrown in a prison if the middle of nowhere. And last but not least he is stabbed by this movies love interest. This movie proves difficult for Batman as he struggles to be stronger and fear death. In this movie Ms. Kyle soon begins to work with Batman but not before turning him over to this movies bad guy, Bane. Bruce returns, from what everyone thought was the dead, and finds Gotham in complete lockdown. Bane has taken over the city and is taunting the city-folk with a nuke that drives around the city in an armored car. Bane instills hope and fear in the people when he tells them that a citizen holds the trigger and will blow it whenever they feel. During his alliance with Ms. Kyle, also known as catwoman, there is a point when Ms. Kyle disappears off the rooftop the same way that Batman has in both movies before. When this happened he states: “So that’s what that feels like.” This simple statement is one that can be, when taken out of context, applied to our lives. Bullying. It’s a big thing in the world today. When a bully makes the decision to bully someone what difference would it make if he stopped and thought: how would I like being treated this way? I know that the chances are unlikely that anyone who is a full time bully would stop and think about it but maybe we could make just a small difference. Even when just kidding with friend’s maybe we could stop and think. What would that feel like? Even when you’re just joking the idea is still the same. The golden rule is a great way to think about it. When we only do unto others as you would do unto yourself the world would be a better place. In an extreme example you could relate it to gangs. O guarantee you that a gang member would never want to have the same things happen to them that they have done to others. Although that is an extreme example it can help get the point out. Our society can always use better people in the world. Better people in the world will lead to more unity and a loser death rate. Not to get all hippy like on you but honestly if we think about the affect we have on others it can change the way the world functions. In closing just remember that what you say to people can have a bigger impact on them than you seem to think. For movie ideas please leave a comment!

The Dark Knight

The Dark Night This movie is number two in the series of (so far) 3 movies, and in my opinion the darkest of the three. In this movie The Joker gives Batman a call and tells him that he has the girl Batman is in love with and her fiancĂ©, Batman has to make a decision. Does he go after the love of his life or does he go after the innocent? Decision’s decisions. We all have to make them and when I watched this movie last I thought about the types of decisions we all have to make. Our decision making starts early in the morning. When our alarms go off. Do we snooze it? Or get up and face the day? That is just the first of many. Do I eat breakfast? Green socks or purple socks? What should I wear today? Some obviously more important than others. And especially as we get older they seem to get more and more important. What should I go to college for? What should I major in? Minor in? What college should I apply for? Which one am I even interested in? How am I going to pay for it? What type of scholarships should I go for? And I think the most important thing to remember is that you have to do what your passionate for. If you have always loved to sing or write poems or songs and you never show your talent to the world and just go for it then you are missing out on something that could potentially change your life. If you have been told time and time again that you are a great artist or dancer. Do something about it!! Don’t sit around and wait for these decisions to pass you by! They won’t fall into your lap. They are going to haunt you for the rest of your life. Don’t be afraid to make the risky decision This is the beginning of the rest of your life! You have a limited time until your chance has come and gone. The sun has to make an important decision every day (figuratively speaking). Does he get up every morning? Does he brighten your day? Make it worth getting up in the morning? The decisions you make should be the ones that do brighten your day. The ones that make you happy. And I promise, if you make the decisions you want you will feel just like what Harvey Dent says: “The night may be darkest just before the dawn. But I promise you, the dawn will come.” If you do what you know will be the best for you it will make your entire life so much easier. And if you are stuck, making decisions only that benefit others and don’t help you at all, I promise you, the dawn will come. There will be a moment where you will realize what makes you happy, and when that moment comes you will me able to truly live your life. For movie ideas leave as comment!

Batman Begins

The first movie of this blog is Batman Begins! Batman, played by Christian Bale, is a movie about death, pain and facing your fears. The movie begins first with a young boy falling in a well. He is surrounded by hundreds of bats and rescued by his father who asks him: "Why do we fall Bruce?" Which he tells him "So we can pick ourselves back up." Despite his fathers words these bats soon become the subject of many of young Bruce Wayne’s nightmares. He is tormented by the thought of the well and all of his black winged fears. His mother and father take Bruce to an opera house where a few stunt characters in the play scare Bruce so much that he asks his parents if they can leave. They do and to Bruce's absolute terror both of his parents are murdered in the alley they exited from. The man that murdered his parents, Joe Chill, is put behind bars and convicted to life in prison. Bruce grows up in the care of Wayne manors butler, Alfred. Bruce goes off to school and soon is seen back in Gotham. He hears news of the man that murdered his parents. The man is appealing his crime and getting a retrial. Bruce is driven to the trail by a family friend, Rachel. The evidence is give that Joe Chill is a changed man. He shared a cell with Carmine Falcone, the mobster of the city, and learned many things that he shouldn't have but both were have said to have received sincere counseling and help. During the trial the judge draws attention to Bruce. "It has come to my attention that a member of the Wayne family is in the courtroom today. Does he have anything to say about this?" At that Bruce stands and leaves the courtroom. In the hallway of the courthouse Joe Chill is murdered and given a message. "Joe! Hey, Joe! Falcone says hi!" BANG! He's dead. Bruce confides in his friend Rachel on the way back to Wayne Manor and confesses that he had also planned to kill Joe Chill and that he would like to that Mr. Falcone for doing it for him. Rachel takes him into a rugged part of time and gives him the opportunity. After his meeting with Mr. Falcone Bruce leaves Gotham and the United States and commits multiple crimes in different countries. Ironically stealing from Wayne Enterprises. He ends up in a jail cell in another country where he gets an opportunity to be trained by Ra's Al Ghoul, the leader of the League of Shadows. He is trained to face his fear of bats and becomes basically a ninja. At the end of his training he is asked to murder a man who killed his neighbor for his land. Bruce says no and has to fight his way out of the training center. Bruce returns to Gotham after being gone, and thought dead, for seven years. He attempts to rid the city of crime for a short while and has several run in's with Scarecrow. Scarecrow proves a formidable opponent until defeated and driven crazy by his own weapon. Ra's Al Ghoul shows up in Gotham and attempts to persuade Bruce that Gotham is beyond saving. Ra's boards a train with a bomb on it and with the help of Police Commissioner Gordon he stops the train and the bomb. In this movie Bruce is given an ultimatum by Ra's. Join the League of Shadows or die with Gotham. Bruce a.k.a Batman refuses the ultimatum and states: "I'm not afraid of you." This simple comment is one that should be stamped to each of our foreheads. We should have the courage to tell life and those around us "I'm not afraid of you." We should see every experience as something that will make us stronger and help us be the better person. Be like Batman, stand up to your fears and state, I'm not afraid of you.
