When I first watched this movie I absolutely loved it! It made me laugh, cry and squeal in joy. This movie has some of the best quotes I have ever heard. My absolute favorite is this little scene between Ted and the Once-ler.
Ted: The last seed?
Once-ler: It's not about what it is. It's about what it can become. Just like... you're not just a boy.
This is a great quote that can mean so many different things to me. The first part of the quote is “The last seed?” This is a quote that I can relate to another quote from a Dr. Seuss book. “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.”
When Ted says what he says it reminds me that you can only be you. There is no one who can be you, which is what Dr. Seuss says in the earlier quote.” Remember who you are” is always something that my grandmother would tell me whenever I went on vacation away from home. I never really hit me until I saw what kind of influence society has on young people. Don’t be what society has influenced you to be. Do what you want if it’s what you would do.

The second part of the quote is “It’s not about what it is. It’s about what it can become.” This is where I see all of our potentials come into play. Just the other day I was recording a song with a few friends and a comment from one of my fellow students really showed me a different side. We should always realize that our paths may be few but we have to try and exercise as many of them as we can. When we were born we all had the potential to be almost anything. We just have to realize that it is within us to do all things with the right amount of dedication.
The last part of the quote is “Just like…you’re not a boy.” WE ARE ALL SPECIAL! There is not a one of us who is less than the other. Just because you get a big paycheck doesn’t mean you are better than the last hobo you saw. Seniors and freshman. Firefighter and teacher. Doctor and social worker. Linguist and physical therapist. Fitness director and president. There is no difference between us. Every one of us is human. And not a one of us is more important than the other. Sure, one of us may require the secret service for protection and the other may only need a stealthily concealed handgun. Circumstances don’t make importance.
I have never seen that movie but I want to so bad! I think Dr. Suess has always had the great sense of teaching life lessons, even in the smallest way. I try my hardest to be who I am every day. That’s why I will wear heels every day to school and not care what anyone says in this town. I agree with the idea that no one is better than you. I try to treat people equally and I hope that I am successful when it comes to that.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is what I needed this week! It reminded me that we are all special! Each of us is the exact person we are meant to be. We are going to grow and change but we are all beautiful in our own way. I have forgotten this lately. I feel like the world would be so much better if I wasn’t in it. I forgot that I matter in my own little way. Thank you for bringing this up, and for reminding me that I do matter. Thank you for reminding me that I’m special and equal. Fabulous blog, Ashlyn!!
ReplyDeleteI love this movie. It is one of the weirdest stories from Dr. Seuss I must say, but I love it! I believe that there are often very deep messages in these movies that we don't understand as kids which is why I think that it is good for us to watch them in our "adulthood". They are important lessons that we should all know to live better lives. I absolutely love your blog Ashlynn! This blog gives you a reason to watch at least one movie a week! Brilliant! The first quote that you gave us in this blog post is one that I needed after this weekend. Thinking about my future has been stressful and a little bit of a tough thing for me. This quote made me realize that I have a lot in store if I just water my seed like it is supposed to be watered.
ReplyDeleteI love The Lorax! This post really speaks to me, because sometimes I feel like I am less important than everyone else, but that is not true. Thanks for this blog. It was a joy to read, and it made me feel as important as the rest of the world.
