Batman Begins
The first movie of this blog is Batman Begins!
Batman, played by Christian Bale, is a movie about death, pain and facing your fears. The movie begins first with a young boy falling in a well. He is surrounded by hundreds of bats and rescued by his father who asks him:
"Why do we fall Bruce?" Which he tells him "So we can pick ourselves back up."
Despite his fathers words these bats soon become the subject of many of young Bruce Wayne’s nightmares. He is tormented by the thought of the well and all of his black winged fears. His mother and father take Bruce to an opera house where a few stunt characters in the play scare Bruce so much that he asks his parents if they can leave. They do and to Bruce's absolute terror both of his parents are murdered in the alley they exited from.
The man that murdered his parents, Joe Chill, is put behind bars and convicted to life in prison. Bruce grows up in the care of Wayne manors butler, Alfred. Bruce goes off to school and soon is seen back in Gotham. He hears news of the man that murdered his parents. The man is appealing his crime and getting a retrial. Bruce is driven to the trail by a family friend, Rachel. The evidence is give that Joe Chill is a changed man. He shared a cell with Carmine Falcone, the mobster of the city, and learned many things that he shouldn't have but both were have said to have received sincere counseling and help. During the trial the judge draws attention to Bruce.
"It has come to my attention that a member of the Wayne family is in the courtroom today. Does he have anything to say about this?"
At that Bruce stands and leaves the courtroom. In the hallway of the courthouse Joe Chill is murdered and given a message.
"Joe! Hey, Joe! Falcone says hi!"
BANG! He's dead. Bruce confides in his friend Rachel on the way back to Wayne Manor and confesses that he had also planned to kill Joe Chill and that he would like to that Mr. Falcone for doing it for him. Rachel takes him into a rugged part of time and gives him the opportunity.
After his meeting with Mr. Falcone Bruce leaves Gotham and the United States and commits multiple crimes in different countries. Ironically stealing from Wayne Enterprises. He ends up in a jail cell in another country where he gets an opportunity to be trained by Ra's Al Ghoul, the leader of the League of Shadows. He is trained to face his fear of bats and becomes basically a ninja. At the end of his training he is asked to murder a man who killed his neighbor for his land. Bruce says no and has to fight his way out of the training center.
Bruce returns to Gotham after being gone, and thought dead, for seven years. He attempts to rid the city of crime for a short while and has several run in's with Scarecrow. Scarecrow proves a formidable opponent until defeated and driven crazy by his own weapon.
Ra's Al Ghoul shows up in Gotham and attempts to persuade Bruce that Gotham is beyond saving. Ra's boards a train with a bomb on it and with the help of Police Commissioner Gordon he stops the train and the bomb.
In this movie Bruce is given an ultimatum by Ra's. Join the League of Shadows or die with Gotham. Bruce a.k.a Batman refuses the ultimatum and states:
"I'm not afraid of you."
This simple comment is one that should be stamped to each of our foreheads. We should have the courage to tell life and those around us "I'm not afraid of you." We should see every experience as something that will make us stronger and help us be the better person. Be like Batman, stand up to your fears and state, I'm not afraid of you.
